Las Vegas Pools

Information guide on all the Las Vegas hotel swimming pools. Find the best pools for the services you want. Nevada's warm and sunny climate help to make swimming pools a popular gathering area. Most Las Vegas hotel/casinos have pools, some even have several, most hotels have one that is open all year around.

There are a few that are heated, some indoor too, and few have deep water. However, most are outdoor, naturally heated and not particularly deep. Most do offer cabanas though, which can be a very nice way to spend your time beside the pool, but can be expensive and have a long waiting list.

Lately, (Nov) our weather has been in the highs at 60 plus degrees and the lows at 40 degrees. This is unseasonably cool weather for us. I mention this as it is always hard to predict. Basically we have a winter season from November -March, but among those days we can have warm weather in the 70's.

They offer a water aerobics class. The pools are open year-round.  The pool is kept at 78 - 82 degrees year round, and is open 8:00 am - 7:00 pm. (Jacuzzi is 102 degrees and is open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm) The pool is 3.5 feet in depth and there is a section designated for laps and a slide. The kiddie section has two slides. Towels are provided and there is a changing area. The pool area has a restaurant and beverage service. The use of the pool is restricted to registered guests only. At the end of the year, normally in December, the pool is closed for approximately one month for maintenance.  Comments: This has to be the most beautiful pool in Las Vegas. The Mirage has a series of lagoons where waterfalls cascade into the pool and they even have three waterslides. You can see their pictures (one overhead and one of the waterfalls) at: http://www.themirage.com/pool.html  The pool area can get crowded, but it is protected by security who checks keys. It used to be that you could bring a key from a previous visit, but word is that now they check the key by scanning it in a machine to make sure you are a CURRENT guest at the Mirage. The rumor that Treasure Island guests can use the Mirage pool is NOT TRUE.

Tropicana pool has waterfalls, an indoor area, and swim up blackjack. There are also 4 huge hot tubs. The pool and surrounding indoor area are kept heated to a comfortable level. There is also a Jacuzzi spa there. In the winter one of the Tropicana's smaller outdoor pools which is designated for adult use only is also kept heated to about 90 degrees. Normally that would be too warm, but in winter, when Las Vegas' night time air temperatures hover in the mid-twenties, a midnight swim in that pool is like basking in a hot spring. Comments: There are two pools here, one huge pool with waterfalls and a swim up blackjack table and one smaller pool with smaller waterfall that is ADULTS ONLY. The Tropicana closes the part of the hotel that is underneath the Island Tower in winter and heat the pool year round. If you're planning on spending a lot of time in the pool, you might want to consider an Island Tower room. The elevator goes right down to the pool area.

Asian-inspired day beds will be scattered throughout the 18,000-sq-ft oasis, which will also include a 30-foot bar. By night, place will turn into an open-air nightclub featuring a floating dance floor, four 14-ft fire columns, music from resident DJs Reach and Galeano and strategically-placed beds for lounging. Note: One of the large pools will be heated all winter but the cafe and snack bar will be closed.

Pool FAQs

Are there any deep pools?

Most pools are fairly shallow - Riviera: 9 feet - Bally's: 12 feet - Binion's: 8 Feet (on the roof of the former Mint) - Tropicana: 3 Pools 5-6 Feet. No diving boards at any of the hotel pools. For safety reasons, the high boards were pulled out in the late 70's. The rest disappeared in the late 80's. Pools built in the 90's were limited to a maximum of 3.5 feet. The Las Vegas Hilton also has a pool with a deep end, but no diving board.

Are there any pool parties?

Lots of 'em, new way for hotel/casinos to make more money, etc. All the major joints have 'em. The Orleans, Mandalay Bay and the Hard Rock Hotel usually have pool parties from May through September. This is the new "big deal" so lots of places are jumping into this Vegas pool parties idea.

Are any pools open late?

Binion's rooftop pool is open until 9 pm, and has a spectacular view. The MGM pool hours are 8 am - 8 pm. The Tropicana and the Flamingo have posted closings of 6 pm, but they are usually permissive about late hour pool use. Are there any indoor pools? The only two hotels with indoor pools are not on the Strip. There's a Best Western on Valley View about 10 minutes west of the Strip and the Holiday Inn Express at Sahara & Durango is about 25 minutes to the west. During the cold months the Tropicana uses a glass partition to enclose the covered section of its large pool by the hotel's Island Tower. The tough part is getting out of the pool.

Are any pools open in the winter?

Mostly not as it is too cold in the winter months, but there are a few open year around - see below.

Cabanas

More on Cabanas: Hotel guests are going bananas for cabanas. With meals, massages and music, hotel cabanas are so hot, you'll need reservations. Most often poolside but sometimes near a restaurant, the tented retreats may be simple table-and-chair affairs or decadent outdoor dens equipped with plush sofas, flat-screen TVs, sound systems, refrigerators, misters and more. Most elaborate are staffed with butlers. Changing into your swimsuit? You probably did that in your hotel room. Instead, you'll likely be lounging, sipping cocktails, dining, viewing DVDs or even getting a massage in a hotel's cabana. Some cabanas are free, if you get out on the deck early enough. More typically, though, they command $75 to hundreds of dollars a day. The Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas rents one for $1,000 per day. "The cabanas fill up every single weekend," said Rio spokeswoman Heather Robbins. She suggests you reserve a week in advance to get one. In Las Vegas, many resorts have cabanas. At the Palms, they start at $150 per day and come with TVs, couches, a safe and more; there's even a two-story model. The Bellagio's 52 cabanas go for $300 per day and up; some have phones, computer plug-ins and music systems. (Note: these cabana costs go up every season so be prepared for $$$$.)
