BELLAGIO HOTEL:
The Bellagio hotel-casino has been ranked the 4th-best hotel in the world by readers of Travel and Leisure magazine. Ranked ahead of the $1.6 billion dollar Bellagio are the Four Seasons Resort Bali, the Ritz-Carlton Chicago and the Ritz-Carlton Naples, Florida in this year's rankings.

The MGM MIRAGE-owned property wasn't the only Las Vegas property to make a showing on the list. Sheldon Adelson's Venetian ranked
42nd globally, while Four Seasons Las Vegas was ranked 67th.

The Bellagio Hotel & Resort, Mirage-Treasure Island owner-impresario Steve Wynn's Italian-flavored resort-casino is found on the Strip, at a corner that also includes Caesars Palace, Bally's, and Barbary Coast and Hilton Flamingo...Wow!  Dining at the Bellagio, you may pick from  thirteen restaurants, which run the gamut from gourmet dining to easy informal meals. Gourmet dining includes the Le Cirque, or at its sister restaurant, Osteria Del Circo Picasso in Bellagio, probably the most beautiful restaurant in Las Vegas. Aqua  is a French-flavored high style seafood venue. Prime features signature dishes such as crab mango salad with cumin crackers; an assembled tomato accented with basil oil; and entrees such as the house prime steaks that come with a variety of sauces from béarnaise to tamarind, or seven different mustards. For Asian meals, seek out either Jasmine, Shintaro or Noodles restaurants. Also, please don't forget the Bellagio Buffet....one of the best in Vegas...and probably one of the more expensive ones too...

New York Style Hotel
January, 1997 saw the opening of New York-New York Hotel & Casino. This 2,035 room "lodgertainment" was developed on 20 acres at a cost of about $460 million by MGM Grand, Inc. and Primadonna Resorts Inc. The hotel recreates the feeling of the Big Apple's skyline using 12 hotel towers designed as one-third-scale models of well-known structures in Manhattan, including the CBS, Chrysler, Empire State and Seagrams buildings. Standing the tallest is the Empire State Building tower, at 47 stories. (Don't forget they have quite a roller coaster ride....wow!!)

A myriad of restaurants include Il Fornaio Italiana, Gallagher's Steak House, Gonzales y Gonzales Mexican restaurant, Nathan's Famous, Schrafft's Ice Cream, Motown Cafe and Nightclub, Chin Chin Asian, actor George Hamilton's namesake Hamilton's Lounge and Fine Cigars and Village Eateries. There are nine bars in the casino and a number of scaled-down models of New York's most famous landmarks such as a 150-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty and 300 foot-long re-creation of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Stratosphere Tower
Also on the Las Vegas Strip, but at the far end, going towards "downtown) is the tallest free-standing observation tower in the U.S.A. The view from the top is spectacular -- you'll see all the hotels on the Strip, the suburban  Las Vegas and even Mt. Charleston in the distance, a snow-covered peak which is over 11,000 feet high. There's also a roller coaster at the top, the world's highest roller coaster, and if that doesn't prove to be enough of a thrill ride, you can try the Big Shot, a reverse bungee jump which will shoot you 160 feet into the air at 45 m.p.h. and then send you zooming back down. If you survive all of this, there's also a bar and restaurant at the top where you can order yourself a stiff drink. Stratosphere Tower is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. There is, of course a charge to go to the top...unless you have a restaurant reservation...or buy a ride ticket...
(they use to have a discount coupon available in their coupon book for the ride to the top)
